  • 19-year judicial career as a Judge in the Circuit Court of Cook County; Law Jury for 17 years, presiding over Motion Call F during the last 12 years
  • As a Law Division judge, presided over an unprecedented number of pre-trials (2-4 a day) with an exceptionally high settlement rate
  • 4 years with the Attorney General’s Office focusing on civil rights 1983 class action, securities litigation, administrative review and various tort matters
  • 12 years in private practice with Hartigan & Ward Law Firm in a general litigation practice concentrating in municipal law, securities, real estate, commercial and tort law

  • Tuff v. Acme Barrel:  Toxic tort with hundreds of plaintiffs
  • Rago v. Federal Signal:  Hearing loss cases for thousands of firemen
  • Castro v. Brown’s Chicken:   Wrongful death; seven murdered employees
  • Van Horne v. Muller:  Defamation; first amendment argument
  • Piel v. Nonskog:  Negligent supervision and entrustment resulting in death of a child with mental health issue
  • Settled several dozen medical malpractice cases as a mediator
