Hon. Edward C. Schreiber, (Ret.) is a senior mediator and arbitrator with ADR Systems.  While on the bench, Judge Schreiber was respected for his even demeanor and calming presence.   He is known for treating both sides equally and having superior knowledge of case values.  Judge Schreiber has forged a reputation for having the ability to facilitate the resolution of complicated disputes through mediation and to guide a fair and efficient process in arbitration.

  • Since joining ADR Systems in 2017, Judge Schreiber has served as a full-time mediator, arbitrator and tri-panel chair
  • 10-year judicial career in the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit, Kane County, Illinois, presided over both civil and criminal court calls, including Mechanics Lien, 2010-2012, and Civil Law Trial, 2012-2016
  • 24-year legal career including Senior Trial Attorney, Law Offices of Clifford P. Mallon, 1989-2006; Assistant State’s Attorney, Cook County, 1982-1989
  • 40-hour mediation training course, National Judicial College
  • Approved Arbitrator, Circuit Court of Cook County, DuPage County and Kane County

Representative Cases

  • Auto Liability: heavy impact accident with passenger sustaining multiple cervical fractures and C2-C6 fusion; settled case
  • Auto Liability and Wrongful Death: driver turned in front of another driver in construction zone with evidence the deceased driver was speeding; achieved global settlement for $1.3 million
  • Medical Malpractice: perforated colon during colonoscopy of patient leading to septic event, multiple organ failure and death; settled case
  • Medical Malpractice and Wrongful Death: failure to diagnose fungal infection leads to death of patient with complicated medical history; settled case
  • Products Liability: drag assembly of paving texture machine falls and worker sustains crush injury; suit against manufacturer and distributor, with third-party claims against employer; global settlement for $1.3 million with employer waiving $500,000 in workers’ compensation benefits
  • Subrogation: fire loss when faulty electric meter fails, destroying home and contents; electric company questions cause and origin of the fire; settled multifaceted case through mediation
