ADR Systems Neutrals Continue to Settle Cases Remotely - ADR Systems

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and the shelter-in-place order from the State of Illinois, ADR Systems’ neutrals have continued to resolve disputes, using remote conferencing options to work with parties wherever they are.

Available for even complex, multi-party cases, ADR Systems’ remote options include Zoom and teleconference.

“Videoconferencing software makes a virtual mediation very similar to an in-person one,” said Hon. Kay M. Hanlon, (Ret.), who settled a case using the videoconference software Zoom recently. “I still spend time with people face-to-face, we still have our breakout rooms for private conversations and we still get to the heart of the matter to resolve the dispute.”

ADR Systems’ remote conferencing ability continues the company’s mission of providing exceptional client service. Company protocols ensure the parties do not have to download software or be technologically-savvy to participate in their remote dispute resolution session. ADR Systems’ staff works with the parties to find the best platform for their session and then either sends a link for a videoconference or initiates a teleconference.

“My virtual session was as effective as an in-person session,” said Michael T. Mertz, partner at Hurley McKenna & Mertz, P.C. “There was no loss of productivity and I would absolutely do another virtual mediation session with ADR Systems.”

With access to the courts limited, ADR Systems’ remote mediation and arbitration services offer a confidential and efficient process to resolve disputes now.

“It has been a seamless transition so far,” said Hon. William E. Gomolinski, (Ret.), who has settled multiple cases remotely. “You still get a personal connection – especially with video conferencing.”

There is no perfect substitute for an in-person mediation or arbitration – that will always be the gold standard.  Nevertheless, our neutrals have been trained on how to deliver high-quality virtual dispute resolution services and have continued to resolve disputes with great success. When parties have a need for a remote session – for whatever reason – ADR Systems can accommodate any request by offering a variety of remote options.

Judge Burke successfully mediated a complicated case with little chance of being resolved.  He read every word of the parties' submissions, asked astute questions, and worked hard to find a path to resolution.  Judge Burke communicated with the parties themselves - so that they felt they were important participants in working toward resolution. The case I thought was never going to settle, settled.
