Hon. Lisa R. Curcio, (Ret.), senior mediator and arbitrator at ADR Systems, recently participated in a panel at the 2019 Midwest Surety and Construction Claims Conference in Chicago. Judge Curcio presented on the benefits of mediation once a claim against a surety principal has begun and a lawsuit has been filed.

“In bond claims, the principal is accused of not completing the work where the surety guarantees it. The process to recover the money lost by the obligee can be costly and time-consuming,” Judge Curcio said. “The benefits of mediation in this scenario is that it drives down costs and removes the risk of either party losing in litigation.”

ADR Systems offers cost-effective ways to settle construction and surety claims, as well as a wide variety of commercial case topics. Learn more about the commercial mediation services ADR Systems offers here.

Judge Harmening is an excellent mediator. Even in situations where settlement is not achieved the day of the mediation, Judge Harmening will continue talks with the parties when he can sense that a settlement is still possible, and gets it done. We have successfully settled several cases with Judge Harmening to the satisfaction of all parties. I am looking forward to working with him on many more in the future.
