Hon. Helaine L. Berger, (Ret.), senior mediator and arbitrator at ADR Systems, will be featured in an upcoming legal program on family law mediation for survivors of domestic abuse. This free, in-person program will explore when, how, and if mediation can be a positive solution for marital disputes or marriage dissolution cases involving domestic abuse. There is one-hour of MCLE credit pending for this program.

“For the past eight years, I’ve been mediating cases involving physical, financial and emotional abuse where Orders of Protection are in place. To accommodate these factors, I have an array of safety protocols available,” said Judge Berger. “I have found that with mediation, resolution can be obtained more quickly. Most importantly, with a proper framework, mediation can empower the abused party.”

Hon. Helaine L. Berger, (Ret.) is an experienced litigator who tried cases in Criminal, Chancery, Law and Domestic Relations before serving as a judge in Cook County’s Domestic Relations Division for 19 years. She has been active in the legal community, including Chair of the CBA’s Fee Committee and President of the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois. Judge Berger concentrates her practice in family law and is flexible and creative in her approach.  She has helped ADR Systems launch an innovative fast track mediation program for family law cases.
