ADR Systems is pleased to announce Hon. Kay M. Hanlon, (Ret.) has joined our panel of senior mediators and arbitrators. Judge Hanlon has 14 years of judicial experience in the Cook County Circuit Court, serving in the First and Third Municipal Districts and later the Law Division.

“As a judge, I loved the challenge of trying a wide variety of cases,” Judge Hanlon said. “The most satisfying aspect of my job was when I could get both sides out of the courtroom and into chambers for a pretrial conference. I encouraged a frank discussion where I probed their interests and helped them work toward settlement. After I retired from the bench, I was attracted to the profession of being a neutral, where you work hard with both sides to settle disputes.”

Judge Hanlon has expertise in resolving personal injury actions such as medical malpractice, mass torts and product liability, as well as commercial actions such as legal malpractice, eminent domain and subrogation.

“I knew Judge Hanlon would be a successful and popular neutral the day I met her,” said Marc Becker, president of ADR Systems. “Her enthusiasm and positive attitude are contagious. Her personality is tailor-made for her work as a mediator and arbitrator, and we are honored to have her.”

Counsel who have appeared before Judge Hanlon found her to be always prepared and ready to listen attentively. Her open and friendly demeanor is known throughout the legal community.

“I am a very compassionate person, I’m a good listener and I’m good at developing a positive environment for productive negotiations,” Judge Hanlon said. “I’m looking forward to helping parties to negotiate lasting settlements.”
