Hon. Michael R. Panter, (Ret.), senior mediator and arbitrator at ADR Systems, recently joined Law360’s Approach the Bench podcast for an episode titled, “Judge Panter on Mediating vs. Judging.” In his conversation with the hosts, he discusses the difference between deciding a case as a judge and helping parties resolve a case as a mediator.

Judge Panter draws on over 40 years of legal experience in his work as a mediator and arbitrator. Having served both as a neutral and as an advocate in thousands of mediations and arbitrations, Judge Panter brings a broad perspective to his practice and is known for his thorough and intelligent approach to settlements.

Throughout the mediation process, Judge Panter searches for any opportunity to help attorneys objectively look at their case and guide parties toward settlement. He encourages each side to consider the relevant facts and the law, working to narrow the issues.

“As a mediator, I’m looking for opportunities to point things out that attorneys are not seeing, help them understand important points of law and guide the parties to see an answer themselves,” says Judge Panter.
