Hon. William Haddad, (Ret.) is scheduled to speak on the ‘Ethics of Negotiation’ at the Chicagoland Risk Management Society Law Day on October 11, 2013. Using case scenarios, the speakers will discuss the ethical dilemmas attendant to negotiating personal injury/malpractice settlements. They will answer questions such as, “Does agreeing to mediate imply a good faith obligation to negotiate?” and “How many mediations does it typically take to resolve a high value case?”

Judge Haddad is a senior mediator and arbitrator at ADR Systems. His areas of expertise include medical malpractice, insurance coverage, and premises liability as well as intellectual property and other commercial matters.

Judge Burke successfully mediated a complicated case with little chance of being resolved.  He read every word of the parties' submissions, asked astute questions, and worked hard to find a path to resolution.  Judge Burke communicated with the parties themselves - so that they felt they were important participants in working toward resolution. The case I thought was never going to settle, settled.
