Judge Curcio Explains Mediation Benefits for Surety Claims in Recent Panel Discussion - ADR Systems

ADR Systems

Hon. Lisa R. Curcio, (Ret.), senior mediator and arbitrator at ADR Systems, recently participated in a panel at the 2019 Midwest Surety and Construction Claims Conference in Chicago.

Judge Curcio presented on the benefits of mediation once a claim against a surety principal has begun and a lawsuit has been filed.

“In bond claims, the principal is accused of not completing the work where the surety guarantees it. The process to recover the money lost by the obligee can be costly and time-consuming,” Judge Curcio said. “The benefits of mediation in this scenario is that it drives down costs and removes the risk of either party losing in litigation.”

ADR Systems, It’s Settled.®

In an automobile accident case involving a severe injury, Judge Callahan kept both sides negotiating even when it appeared we were going to be over six figures apart at the end. His insights and guidance were instrumental in getting both sides to a dollar figure that ultimately settled the case. I am confident that we could not have achieved that settlement without Judge Callahan’s superb efforts.
