Contracts often mandate mediation or arbitration as alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms. What do engineers need to know and how can they use ADR to their advantage? Do professional liability insurers offer financial incentives for mediation? Is arbitration still alive? Are owners still cheering for ADR?

Kevin Sido, Esq. will address these questions and more as a featured speaker at the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers (ISPE) Annual Convention on July 25 -26, 2013. He will discuss what Illinois engineers need to know about mediation and arbitration and why ADR is so important for an efficient and cost-effective resolution of construction disputes. Owner-engineer agreements often require mediation before a demand for arbitration is filed or litigation commences. More than 200 are expected to attend this annual two day conference in Lisle, Illinois.

Mr. Sido is a senior mediator and arbitrator, working exclusively with ADR Systems. ADR Systems is a leading provider of mediation, arbitration, and other dispute resolution services.

Judge Burke successfully mediated a complicated case with little chance of being resolved.  He read every word of the parties' submissions, asked astute questions, and worked hard to find a path to resolution.  Judge Burke communicated with the parties themselves - so that they felt they were important participants in working toward resolution. The case I thought was never going to settle, settled.
